Started at 2PM as the afternoon was just heating up. Rode w/ Ty to Lake Mineral Wells (15.5 miles) on the trail. Jumped in and cooled off a little. Then rode back. Brutal...very brutal. :)

Total: 31 miles on trail. Calling it 10 miles of running.

Met Ty at the trailhead at 5PM. The car said 100 degrees on the nose. Rode to the lake, cooled off, then rode back. This week was much easier than last week. I think that with the sun lower in the sky, the distance between shade spots (my friends) was a little less. Didn't seem quite so brutal this week. And there were a few clouds that helped.

Finished reading Dean Karnaze's book. Some pretty cool stuff in there. He's just a little too gung-ho for me and my lifestyle. I probably won't be running a marathon to the south pole, or running a 200 mile Relay by myself anytime soon. :)

I haven't run in over 2 weeks. I think I'll try easing into it again sometime this week.

Couldn't sleep, so decided to give running a try. Temps are much more agreeable at 4AM. 80F, not much wind. I drove into work, so I could run the mile loop -- which is mostly lighted. Managed 7 miles..with a little walking in there.

After the run, I slept in my car for about an hour, then went in and showered. Ankle was a little tender -- it might just be from sleeping in the car!

Ran 3 easy miles with Jo and Darin. Jo's knee was bothering her, so I volunteered to walk the last mile with her. (My achille's is still bothering me, but I think it always will). While we were running our AP was about 8:00. After walking the last mile, it dropped to 10:00.

My daughter, Megan has officially moved into an apartment at the University of North Texas. This is her first time away from home, and it's a little scary, but, we're excited for her. She's only about 45 miles away, so it's not so bad. She's already texted my wife 20 time today - asking advice on everything from cooking to cleaning. She'll do fine. Maybe it's time to move my office from "The Shed" to her old bedroom???

Soccer practices start on Thursday. I'll be coaching 6 and 7 yearold boys (mine are on the team). I'll be attending a coaches clinic on Saturday. I really want these boys to get the most out of their experience -- and I want to be the coolest coach ever (now, if I only knew something about soccer..and coaching soccer...hmm)

Ty wasn't able to ride today, so I skipped my weekly ride to the lake. That's OK, I got a lot of much-needed yard work, maintenance, and cleanup done around the old farm.

Ran w/ Darin and Mike before work. Ran 5.5, then walked for another .7 (there's only one shower at work, and the slowest guy goes last...so I walked for a while)

Achilles felt OK. Not great, but OK.

Ran at lunch w/ Darin, Dave, and Mike. It was a rare cool summer day (only 75). I brought up the rear with a 7:24/mi pace. Not bad, but I can definitely tell I haven't been putting in the miles.

Met Ty at the trailhead at 7AM. Ran 2.5 out and 2.5 back. I remember when 5 miles was a warm up. Folks it doesn't take long to lose some fitness...but on the good side, it was great to get a shot of endorphines in the morning. Ankle is feeling a little better. Signed up for a 5K race on Labor Day (the boys will be running the Kid's K). It'll be nice to enjoy a nice short race!
