Treadmill Intervals at work.

Got the HR up today.

Been coffee-free now since last Friday (major caffeine withdrawl headaches on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday I was OK). I'm trying different things to get my BP in check without relying on medication. I'm monitoring it closely. I'm not so sure I really trust BP machines much..they seem to fluctuate quite a bit in just a few minutes. I took BP twice right before lunch -- 156/84, then immediately followed by a 142/74. The first one scared me a bit, but the second one is more "normal" for me.

Great job Marc. It's always difficult quitting things like caffeine. I used to drink Coke every day, but now I save it for the weekend only. Seems to be working. So are you taking the BP medication or are you trying different things first? BP is one thing that's always been good to me. Whenever I check it, it's between 120-125/70-73. I hope you can get it all under control.

Thank, Dale. I've been monitoring my BP quite frequently. I've stopped taking the betablocker now for about 5 days. I really didn't like how low my HR was getting and I really would like to avoid being on a medication, if at all possible. I'm trying a few changes (cutting out caffeine, drinking more water, getting more sleep) I'll keep an eye on it closely. Last night my BP was 110/60 on the left arm, and about 125/70 on the right arm (averaged over a few measurements). I really need to find a good doctor.

GOOD JOB at monitoring your B/P and taking charge of your health. I'm with ya on the medication thing. There's always side effects. You have to weigh the good and the bad with it. GOOD LUCK and stay healthy.

Marc,

I am anxious to see your blood pressure get to where you want it. Sounds like you know what your doing.

Keep us up to date!! You're amazing!

Teena and Smooth, I'm not really sure where my blood pressure should be. It's always been a little on the high side (diastolic is usually between 130-145), except for that day I went to the ER, when it was stuck above 155 for about 4 hours until the injected a betablocker. I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Here's a little experiment I just did to see the fluctuation in readings, just by changing the position of my arms.

Right arm.Sitting on bed with arm resting on bed. 9:37pm

136/83, HR 44 bpm

134/80, HR 43 bpm

Left arm, 9:39pm

131/82, HR 45

134/81, HR 44

Left arm elevated above heart on pillow

132/66, HR 44

130/65, HR 46

Right arm elevated above heart hand on head

105/55, HR 45

100/49. HR 46

129/76, HR 45

Standing, right arm at side

147/81, HR 48

141/81, HR 47

Standing, left arm at side

140/86, HR 46

Kind of interesting. Not sure what to make of it, but I'll be sure to ask my doctor when I see him next.

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 23:58:00

Marc,

It's common to find fluctuations in B/P with postural change. When your arms are raised above the heart, there's less pressure as gravitation pools the blood return to the heart. It will be interesting to see what the doctor has to say. Very smart of you to take several readings for comparison.

I finnaly found out were you were posting! I am a little slow though.

My family has always had low blood pressure in fact my dad was told to eat salty foods. My 18 year olds sons was too low to give blood this year. I am not sure if that is bad or good. Mine has always been low but I have not had it checked in a long time.

Nice speed work Marc. You were moving there at the end. Cutting the coffee is bound to help and now when you take one of those GUs with caffiene you will feel the boost a bit more.
