Spent the day with my two boys at a Mountain Bike Race. Ethan (11) and Christian(10) rode their respective races in the morning, while I took pictures and videos. I rode about 10 miles of warmup trails awaiting my 12:30 CAT 2 race start. I love riding trails. It's currently my favorite hobby -- my bike is mediocre at best (2012 Trek Mamba). I was in the first row at the start - which consisted of a paved 1/4 mile sprint to the trail -- then a funnel into the woods. I was about 8th going into the woods. Lots of dust on the trail as it hadn't rained for quite some time. It was also about 95 degrees. My race consisted of 2 x 8 mile loops -- I fell about 4 or 5 times on the first lap, as I stuck to the group in front of me waiting to my turn for a good place to pass - only to be forced off the trail when someone stopped climbing a hill. The second lap was much better - a lot less traffic. I placed about 14th out of 22. Not great, but these were some of the best riders in the areas. My lap times were 50:00 and 45:00.  Had a great time with the boys, and am looking forward to doing some more bike racing once SGM is behind me!

Sounds like a fun race... except for the falling 4 or 5 times part.

Wow! that's awesome! I can picture you and your boys on your mountain bikes! So cool that you're loving it. The falling part doesn't sound fun though...me a non-biker speaking... Same thing non-runners say about marathon crazies! :)

Hey Smooth - I posted some pics and a video on Facebook. I know you have lots going on. I'm heading to SGM next Thursday. Are you running it this year?

How exciting is that.....way to get after your passion and doing it with the boys!!!

Got all you stuff ready for SGM. When do you get there, where are you staying? I wish you the best of luck.....go for it!

Good luck tomorrow. I will be interested to see if all the biking is good enough to run a decent marathon.

Good luck in the SGM. I know you'll do great.
