Saturday morning would have been a great time to run..as the temps were in the 70's compared to the 80s we've been experiencing lately. But, I decided to camp out in the tent with the boys on Friday night. Didn't sleep much, and lingered a little too long, and didn't run. Did yard work ALL DAY! Got caught up from 2 weeks away. Saturday night, at around 10PM, I decided to go for a run. It was still 85 degrees and muggy when I got to the HS track. The moon was full..and it was a nice, but a little lonely, run. I'm starting to build my mileage back up (my next scheduled race is El Scorcho - Quatro 50K, July 26th). I've decided that if I'm going to run long races, that I need to train for them. UVM, though I finished respectably, was tough on me--especially mentally. As silly as it sounds, I felt that I didn't deserve to be racing a marathon -- without putting in the training. I psyched myself out of the race, and was just happy to finish. I want to feel confident going into my races -- confident, not only to finish, but to finish strong -- like I've done many times  before.

I ran 6 miles. I ran the first 2 miles in under 15:00 -- I had no concept of speed in the dark. My HR was in the low 150s for the entire time. Walked a little after 2 and 4 miles, but still averaged a little over 8:00s overall. Night running wasn't too bad -- at least I didn't have to worry about sunburn! :)

No sunscreen needed (like on the treadmill, friend.) :)

Just keep movin' so the big kids don't kick dirt in your face!

NICE run in the dark. I seriously don't know how you could train in that heat and humidity. GOOD JOB getting back in the game.

Nice. I was camping with my son and his 11 year old Scout patrol Friday night also. I didn't get up and run though. Heck, I didn't even go on the 5 mile hike with them, because of my dumb leg. Sounds like you had a busy day.

I know how youi feel about the whole marathon thing. Even though I trained hard for UVM, I don't feel that I trained hard enough, or maybe I trained too hard and it came back to bite me.

RP - Long runs on a track are only slightly less boring than long runs on a treadmill (at least you can watch TV on the mill :)

Got that right, Slick!

Smooth - Thanks. I looked back a year ago in my logs, and I wasn't too motivated then, either. It is tough to get in the miles during the summer. :)

Rhett - Kids will always remember the special times spent with their dad. (at least I will)

Dale - I just know that 26.2 miles is still a long way to run...whether you've done 1 or 100, it is still no walk in park (OK, maybe I did walk a little, but you know what I mean :)
