My Garmin was being flaky today. I've had it almost 2 years -- and I'm wondering if the rechargeable battery built into this thing has come to the end of its life-expectancy. I'll charge it, it'll show "Battery Charging Complete". I'll take it off the charger..and it won't turn on. It'll still talk to my PC and download my activities, but it doesn't seem to want to turn on after I take it off the charger. Time for a google search.

Ran with (or away from Darin and Eric) at lunch. We started out together. Another hot, steamy mid-80's day. We hit the first mile at 7:38 (according to Darin's Garmin..because mine wasn't working). We ended up single file to avoid traffic, and I thought I was keeping a steady pace with them behind me. I thought they slowed down..I would check on them once in a while..and they kept dropping further behind...and I thought I was doing about a 7:40/mi pace. I finished the 6 mile run about 2 minutes ahead of them..finishing in about 44 minutes. I'll give myself an AP of 7:20...but I'm really not sure.

I kept thinking about Huans and his 6:11 3x1600's -- there is just no way I could do that, not right now..not with these temperatures. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow morning with Jo.

AP: 7:20?

Funny ... I have been thinking of Mark's 6:11s as well!!! So so so fast!!!

Likewise, you are super fast!!! Are you guys running together at SG?

Sweet AP there!!!

I think there is a reset on your Garmin. I am not sure what it is. Cristy had to do it once.

I try NOT to think about 6:11 miles!

Very nice job, Marc. I'm going to dread the day my Garmin doesn't work anymore. I'm hoping it'll last a long time since I run so much on the treadmill, I only wear it at races .

good solid run, Marc

That's exactly what happened to Huans' Garmin!! Share what you learned with him if you would; I'd hate to drop that much money on a new one if all it needs is a new battery.

From Huans32 on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 13:09:27 from 138.64.2.76

Great job today on your run Marc. Sorry to hear your Garmin is acting up too. Might is only collecting dust now. As for those 3X 1600 they are tough and the 400m RI I walk like 300 of it to recover. But big confidence boost to say the least. I should of already done it like 3 times in the last 10 weeks with that the first time hitting them right on. On the track and road its very hard to keep the constant push the whole time and not over do it.

From Huans32 on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 13:13:32 from 138.64.2.76

Oh Marc was going to ask you something too. I looked up 2 different pacers for SGM. One done by Paul on the Blog here and the other by Cougar on the forum. So I punched in the 3:15 and saw what they came up with. And thought we should decide on which one we are going to go with. So I can mentally prepare for it and such before hand. Paul's has the Veyo hills alot slower then the later. But has you speeding up alot in the last 10k of it. And cougars a bit faster on Veyo. But more close to 7:20s for the final 10k. Just something to look at and decide on. We will have to see what Jeff thinks too.

NICE run sans Garmin. Call Garmin's support guy; I'll bet you can get it working in a jiff.

Looks like you, MarkO and JeffC are going for 3:15 at SGM! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

From MarcE on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:03:17 from 24.155.140.8

Mark, I need to look at the pace charts for SGM. I'm a bit of a fader. I need to run the first half about 3:00 faster than the second half (1:36 - 1:37 for the first half, and 1:38-1:39 for the second). Can you send me the links to the pace calculators -- I might have Cougar's around somewher? I like to run it at a fairly even effort...meaning that I'd keep my HR fairly constant throughout. Veyo and the mile or two afterwards will definitely be the slowest miles...but they're early enough in the race, that they won't feel too bad. I'd be glad to hear yours and Jeff's thoughts on pacing strategy.

I Googled my Garmin and found the reboot procedure. It seems that my ON/OFF switch might be on the fritz. I was able to turn it on and off with a pointy pen cap. Today, when I ran, I thought I would need to use a key to turn it on, but it turned right on with the button. Not sure what happened, but it seems to be alive again.

Mark - Put your on the charging cradle, and press and hold the MODE and RESET buttons for about 10 seconds at the same time, and see if it comes alive (this soft-reboot will NOT clear your data) Give it a try!

From MarcE on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:07:41 from 24.155.140.8

Dale, I really like the Garmin. But, for some reason yesterday's run was faster...I had the Garmin on my wrist, but it wasn't powered on. (So it wasn't the weight) I think sometimes when I look at it and see my HR is at a level above normal..I subconsciously slow down. It is a little liberating just to run sans Garmin once in a while. I'm pretty sure if mine dies, I'll get another 305...they're getting cheaper all the time!

From MarcE on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:09:50 from 24.155.140.8

Yep, Teena..that's the plan. Huans, JeffC, and me..and perhaps Kelli's hubby, Scott.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:20:06 from 67.177.20.13

You guys are going to do great!!! Hope I get invited to the victory party!!! :)

From timp on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:44:55 from 129.188.33.25

its fun to read all the pacing planning -- good times... :)

From MarcE on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 22:23:06 from 24.155.140.8

Teena, with your speeds, maybe you're going for 3:15? What's your goal? Now, I know the plan is to "chick" as many guys as possible, and knowing that you're probably right behind me, will keep me fired up to the finish! :) When you DO pass me...be gentle. :)

From Teena on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 22:41:14 from 67.177.20.13

Mark,

You are a riot!!

My body is not holding up very well right now. I will be ecstatic if I can hit my goal of a sub 3:30.
