It's been 6 days since SGM. My right calf and ankle are still puffy and sore. Not sure what I did -- reading about stress fractures and muscle pulls -- could be both. I'll give it a couple more days then I'll go see a doctor. No running for me...for a while. :-(

Is it more puffy than the left? I hope it isn't anything serious. My calves are still puffy but the soreness are diminishing every day. Please take care! No running just kills. It's the wise thing to do. May be you can try swimming? Have a GREAT weekend. I'm sending positive healing thoughts your way.

I second the healthy thoughts...

Do take extra time to get healed up. Too many bloggers have been hurt by not easing up.

From Rhett on Fri, Oct 09, 2009 at 17:15:24 from 74.42.168.199

I'm one of those Paul is talking about. Don't push it until you're feeling much better. It's been 6 months since my injury and I'm just now getting back to running and I'm still not 100%...but close.

From MarcE on Fri, Oct 09, 2009 at 19:32:31 from 129.188.33.25

Thanks for the encouragement.

Smooth - yes the right leg is puffier than the left. I read about muscle pulls and stress fractures and think I might have a combo. When I say puffy..I mean I can push in on the swelling and it leaves and indentation. I don't think it is overly discolored. Just very tender.

Swimming sounds like a good idea..I'll have to find a pool. I don't intend to run for quite some time. (I really better stop eating!!!!)

Welcome to the wonderful world of the wounded. I surely hope it's not a stress fracture. I'm still nursing my knee. I don't dare run until it's 100% again.

Marc --

Seriously give swimming a go. I am going to try and keep swimming a part of my training program all the time. There is just something about it that helps my body. Seriously.

You are still icing several times a day, right? (Btw, posted a pic of you on my blog.)

From Rhett on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 16:58:49 from 74.42.168.199

How's the leg feeling today Marc? Any improvement?

From MarcE on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 17:10:00 from 136.182.2.25

This is a very humbling experience for me. I've been under the philosophy of "less is more" when it comes to mileage (versus rest). I'm pretty sure I ramped back up too quickly this go around, and didn't "respect the distance" -- it was getting a little routine for me...so I slacekd off a little too much.

The leg still has some swelling. I'm working today with it elevated. It seems to be normal size when I wake up in the morning, but by the end of the day it is puffy again (if I wear socks, it doesn't get puffy where the socks are, but just above that line..) I iced it a couple times, and that seems to help, but makes it very cold! :)

Enjoying a little downtime. Will try to get to the gym a few times this week and ride stationery bike, and lift some weights. No running for a few more weeks. I don't want to risk permanent injury...this will also give my Achilles some much-needed recovery time (as I've had Achilles pains for the past 4 years)

Thanks all for the good vibes. I appreciate them.

Hang in there Marc!!!

Good thing is that you know what to do and will actually do it!!! :)

Marc...I am so sorry to hear you are hurt...I am with the rest of the crew, you should take up swimming until it it FULLY better.

From MrsFIT on Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 12:33:50 from 205.127.241.18

Give cross training a chance and I promise you'll feel better - you can still eat! :)

From Huans32 on Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 11:13:43 from 138.64.2.76

Wow that is bad news man. I hope it isn't anything serious. Have you thought about wearing some of those compression socks too?? My first thoughts would be to try a pair of those on and see if that helps along with xtraining. Hang in there man.

From MarcE on Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 23:34:17 from 24.155.140.8

Mark, I'll give those compression socks a try. The swelling has gone down, almost completely. I did 20 minutes on the exercise bike yesterday (don't want to jump in too fast).

I really do need to find a place to swim. There is a small gym on the way home from work with an indoor pool, I'll check it out and see how much they want for a membership. Who knows, maybe with swimming, and biking, I might have to try a tri!
