Another crazy day. This time change is making it very difficult for me to wake up in time to go to work. I haven't used an alarm in years (except the nights before races, when I use 2 of them..I don't want to be late for races..) I decided to telecommute today, so that I could be able to take my boys to soccer practice immediately after work, without the usual 45 minute commute each way.

Ran a mid-week long run at lunch time. 75 degress, 15MPH wind felt pretty good. Overcast skies helped keep me cool. I felt a bit sluggish for coming of a rest day, but once I got a few miles into it, I was glad I ran.

Miles
8:47 (uphill into the wind)
8:15 (still into the wind, not too much uphill)
7:54
8:07
8:07
8:39 (walked a little while I drank some PowerAde)
8:09
8:58 (walked a little past the house with the big dogs that like to chase me)
7:25
7:15 (the last 2 miles were sort of downhill with the wind..it's nice to finish strong!)
Avg HR: 145
AP: 8:09

Coached the boys soccer practice, and then was off to and open house at my kindergartener's school. Now I'm starting to realize why there are so many older people at races...once the kids are out of the next, there's a lot more time for running!! It'll be bitter-sweet, I'm sure.

I'm shooting for my first 50 mile week of the year this week...supposed to rain tomorrow. I might have to run on the treadmill.

GOOD JOB! Nice mileage and splits with wind, hills, potential big dogs chase and all. 75 degree would be heat wave for us here. Yep, I'm one of the "old" people. I think Texans are very devoted to their children. I can't believe all the dads and grandparents attending kindergartens when I visited my grand-daughter. Her kindergarten was all day. GOOD LUCK on your first 50 mile week. How many of those are you gonna do before Boston?

Great job Mark. I can't wait until my daugther starts kindergarten next year. I'll have a lot more time for running. I'm working on my first ever 40 mile week.

I'm glad to see you out there pounding the pavement. Time is running out. I was just lookin at the next few weeks and we really only have 3 weeks of hard running left, before we start the tapering.

Smooth, yep, I like to be as much a part of my kids' lives as possible. Sure, it gets in the way of my running a little, but I find the balance. I hope to hit 50 miles in the next three weeks before I taper. It's a soft goal, if I don't make it, no biggie.

Dale, good luck with your first 40 mile week! If you throw in a 20 mile long run on the weekend, it's hard not to hit 40. :-)

Thanks, Rhett. It felt good to pound some pavement yesterday. Yep, 3 more weeks of hard training, then taper time!
