Started this run feeling great. Around mile 4 I could feel a little tightening in my right calf (the same one that cramped up on my a week ago). By mile 5, I had to stop, walk, and stretch. It never got too, too bad, but definitely need another massage, and to hydrate lots this week. This is a little disconcerting this close to the big day. 20 miles would be a long way to walk. I think if I run any more this week, it will be MP+1:00 as the fastest.

AP: 7:19 until end of 5 miles

AP: 7:28 overall.

Nice run. Sorry to hear about the calf is acting up again. What is up with that?? I remember last year about this time having a cramp act up and such. And then on the Thur before the race it going away just as fast as it came. I just hate tapers for the odd pains you all of a sudden get. Which come race day are gone.

I often get calf strains during taper week. I don't know why though. They always seem to be fine by race day though. Keep doing everything right and you'll be fine. Mark and Jeff need you at full strength.

I seem to have more issues with my left calf than everything else combined. Hang in there.

From Smooth on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 16:45:06 from 97.117.89.13

Darn that cramp...stink! Keep the hydrating, eat good, rest and massage out the tight spots. You will be good to go come race day. Sending positive vibes your way.

You seem so cool and composed, maybe some of that will rub off on me?!

Saturday should be interesting! I'm thinking of taking the rest of the week off -- no running at all, and going to the starting line on Saturday with the freshest legs possible. Not sure how this will all pan out...Got the Biofreeze samples and an appointment with my massage therapist (as soon as she puts our kids to bed). Thanks for the kind words and positive vibes!

I think rest is a great idea. I will only put in a mile or two myself...with maybe one spin class.

Nice run Marc. Keep it easy on that calf of yours. Mine have been giving me fits lately too. I think I am going to try and hydrate like a mad man as well over the next few days.
