I was supposed to run yesterday, but woke up with a headache and felt a little dizziness (maybe sinus / head congestion??) So, I decided to get some sleep instead of running.

This morning, I felt much better...so I thought.. was going to do 15, with 13 at MP...but at mile 5 my right calf cramped up. Not just a little tightness, a full-on, time to stop, charlie horse. This has NEVER happened to me this early in a run. Was it the blueberry pancakes I had yesterday? Due to all the yardwork? Didn't I hydrate? Maybe I rested too much this past week? Was it the speed work on Friday? Low potassium? I ate bananas yesterday and this morning before I ran. I also took a Honey Stinger before I started today...hmmm.

After the cramp-up, I walked most of the way back to my car...jogged a little, but it hurt. Hobbled quite bit throughout today, but it is starting to loosen up.

Let's say this didn't do much for my confidence going into SGM. Arrrg..Anyways...I'll be sure to drink plenty of fluids this week, and get back to running, and get back some of my confidence...I sure hope Charlie doesn't jump on me at SGM!

Could of been if you had alot of sinus issues that you didn't hydrate enough. Or if you took something it didn't allow you to hydrate on the run. Had a horrible race at SLC when I took a mucinex and cramps started at mile 7.:(

Either way I wouldn't worry about it too much. You will be back to normal soon enough. Get in another good run and you will be back to normal.

Get feeling better.

no problem, Marc. I'm sure that is a one time cramping thing. Weird things happen in the couple weeks before a goal race. You still have enough time to do a couple shorter MP mile runs to get that confidence up.

Odd thing I have had with cramping. Is in most of my marathons I have cramped up. Yet after the race was over the days after. I didn't have any bad side effect and they went away. So I hope that is the case. How is it feeling today?? We got to have our pacer good and strong.:)

Get the stick out and massage that sore spot away. I hope it clears before race day.

That's a real bummer. I agree with Tim, weird things happen during taper time. A few days before TOU my left calf was cramping up and it wasn't even during a run. I could feel it there all day. As soon as I started hydrating better, it went away. Let's hope that's all it is.
