As I drove to the trailhead today I was shocked to see my thermometer in my car drop to about 59F. WOWWW! It was almost chilly..

Ran the 10.5 miles from Weatherford to Garner. Saw lots of runners finishing their runs..that's strange, the trail opens at sunrise, and it was only about 10 minutes after sunrise.

Though the weather was excellent, I wasn't feeling all that great...I really shouldn't have eaten the 2 Jr bacon cheeseburgers, large order of stuffed jalapeno peppers on my way home from work at 8PM last night. And I REALLY shouldn't have had the chips and salsa, and chocolate chip cookies while working on the computer until midnight, either. The Tums I took before the run seemed to help a lot. (I will not repeat this pre-longrun routine again).

The 2nd half of the run felt better than the first. At the turnaround (Garner store) I bought a 20oz Sobe Energy, and drank it down in about 30 seconds. By then the sun was getting high and no clouds in the sky. By the time I finished, it was 80 degrees, but felt great! Really loved the cooler temperature!

Consumed: 1 Honey Stinger gel, 2 Jolly ranchers, 1 12 oz bottle of water, 6 oz Powerade, 20oz Sobe Energy drink

AWESOME RUN!!!

59 degrees to start ... perfect!

Okay, the grocery store by my house has Sobe Drinks on sale for 39 cents ... maybe I should go stock up. What's the good flavors???

Nice job on the mileage Marc!! :)

Teena, 39 cents is a steal! I paid $1.97 for a bottle..it was SOOOOOOO worth it. They're probably full of all kinds of bad stuff..and mostly sugar, but they taste so good!

I've really only had a couple flavors - Energy (citrus fruit) and Green Tea (not sure that's a big seller in Utah). I always avoid the sugar-free stuff, but I'm sure if you don't mind artificial sweetners, they're all good)

great job MArc -- I misread it - I saw something about getting high....i though I was on the wrong board.

big mileage week -- good job!

I think those bad eating days before a long run actually help fuel it.

Nice run Mark...did you like the Honey gel? I am thinking about trying them.

From MarcE on Sat, Aug 29, 2009 at 20:54:47 from 24.155.140.8

Thanks, Tim! (what other message boards do you belong to? :)

Kathie, I really think the Honey Stinger gel was pretty good. Tastes just like honey (it has real honey in it). It's really no messier or stickier than other gels. I've got a whole box of them, so I better use them! Give'm a try.

so....did you wear your winter coat when you started....with all the miles you run in the heat that would feel like winter :)

Nice mileage this week and great run!

LOL things not to eat before a long run. Great job on the run. So was some of this uphill?? You got to love the cool starts.

I tried jolly ranchers while running once, YUCK! I need to figure out how to stomach food on the run!

Nice job today, and send that weather this way please!

BTW--SoBe has a water with no calories and it is also on sale for 39cents! Oh, but wait, teena, you need the calories!

From MarcE on Sun, Aug 30, 2009 at 22:38:23 from 24.155.140.8

Kimmy :)..I actually thought about wearing my long-sleeved Boston shirt..but once it warmed up, was glad I went with the short-sleeves.

Mark - this trail used to be a railway, so the hills are so gradual you barely notice them. I think is thanges about 200 feet over 4 miles. First a climb, then a drop, then a climb, then a drop.. It's not good training for SGM. My next long run will be on pavement with some serious hills.

Thanks, Kelli. You can't buy plain water for 39 cents...I'd stock up! (and yes, Teena needs the calories)
