Another run with Eric at lunch. It was about 75 and sunny. A little warm, but I'll take it. Light breeze. Felt great. Started slow (8:10) and finished with a 7:00 last mile. Tomorrow I'll go for about an 8 miler..I hope.

10 days 'til Cowtown. Worked on my pace spreadsheet last night for a few hours. Taking elevation and my splits from last year into consideration to figure out the best way to finish in 3:40:00 exactly...won't that be cool if I can hit it on the nose...with my whole group intact?!

Have fun with your 8 miler. 75 is very warm. Looks like you're working hard to prepare for pacing Cowtown. It will be so so so awesome if you finish in exactly 3:40:00!!! You can do it!!!

From Teena on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 01:40:35

I'm predicting a 3:39:29!!

I am getting very excited for you! Can't wait to hear all the details when all is said and done.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 10:50:52

Oh man, Marc, I think it's really cool that you're going to be a pacer. Are you nervous?

From Kathie on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 12:54:53

Oh no Teena I smell another contest! I say 3:38:59!

You are working so hard at this Marc I am sure your group will love you for it. I will find you some jokes if you want them. :)

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 19:09:45

Kathie,

Yes, we want jokes, lots'avem.

Marc,

So, what does your spreadsheet say you'll finish in? I prefer a scientific approach to crazy prediction. But then again, I'm more of a let just play-it-by-ear type of girl.

From MarcE on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:30:42

Smooth, The spreadsheet has me enter a desired finish time, and then it gives me splits for each mile to finish at exactly that time. Just like Cougar's SGM spreadsheet. Maybe I'll throw one together for Boston (I'm sure I will)

Kathie, my memory stinks. I can never remember jokes. Maybe I'll print them out and make an armband with them. Sure, send me some. Maybe I'll just ask for audience participation.

Kathie/Teena -- there is no way I'll finish before 3:39:59 (if I'm ahead of that, I'll stall at the final aid station. I'm trying to hit it on the nose with as many left in the pace group at the finish as possible. The big question is whether I will hit it on the nose, or crash and burn...that's what makes it exciting!

Dale, I'm not really nervous. More excited than anything. It's quite a challenge to predict a finish time and hit it -- I've never done it, so I'm hoping this will be the first.

From Teena on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 23:52:08

But I have to say that finishing 3:39:59 sounds cooler than 3:40:00 even. Hey ... maybe you could give the group a fair warning for those who want to sprint to the end to be in the 3:30s instead of 3:40s. What will you do if you plan on exactly 3:40 but the course measures a bit long at the end?

I'm sure you have already thought of that!! I can hardly wait and I am not even running it!!

From MarcE on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 21:19:45

Yes, Teena, I'm actually going for 3:39:59..but don't tell anyone. It is definitely cooler to round down. Especially, as time passes. The day after the race "I ran a 3:39:59", a few months later "It was a 3:39", a year later "I ran a 3:30-somthing at Cowtown", before you know it, it's turned into a sub-3:00 :-)

From Teena on Sun, Feb 22, 2009 at 21:25:10

That is so true!!! I'm laughing so hard because my 3:34:59 at SGM this year has already made it to the, "yeah, I ran a 3:34" level!!!

TOO FUNNY!!!
