What was I thinking? Having just finished reading Born to Run -- a great book that talks about what damage has been done to runners over the past 30 years since the advent of running shoes, and because I had to run inside today on the treadmill, I decided to run in just my socks (it's a public treadmill, didn't want to oog people out). The run felt great for the first mile or so -- I felt so liberated, free of shoes...I ramped the speed from 6 to 7.5 mph....feeling good. Around mile 2, I could feel a little blistering in the center of the pad of my foot. By mile 3, I called it quits. I stepped of the treadmill, and my feet were burning up -- I didn't realize how much friction I must have been generating.. Anyways, I probably should have started slower or less distance and worked my way up. 3 hours later, my feet still feel a little sore. BTW - I was going to run 6, but only managed .5 more miles with my shoes on -- they felt like lead weights on my feet! I'll probably give it another try in a few days, once the blisters have subsided. Seriously thinking about trying the Vibram 5-fingers..
