Ran the Buffalo Boogie 5K in Lake Worth, Tx. I've run this race a few times in the past. It is not an easy course. The first 1/2 mile is a nice downhill, then it levels out until the 2 mile mark, then it's a stair-step up to the finish.
Weather was as good as it could get this time of year in Tx. 60 degrees, low humidity, a little wind,
I haven't run a 5K race (not counting the 5K fun-run on Sunday before the Boston Marathon this year) in over a year.
Mile 1 -5:57 - First mile was a little into about a 10 MPH wind, but it was mostly downhill.
Mile 2 - 6:20 - feeling good, hanging with a pack of 4. Saving energy for the last 1.1 miles, which is mostly uphill.
Mile 3 - 6:41 -
3.1 - 19:46 - Finished 10th overall (out of 400+), 2nd in AG (missed 1st by 6 seconds). I'm very happy with how I did. I might have to do another 5K soon, and maybe push it a little harder. (This is a course PR for me)
The Buffalo Boogie is held at a Nature Center which is known for its heard of Buffalo. There were lots of "green" vendors. The best part of the day was sharing it with my 2 boys and wife. They walked the 5K, had fun at all the vendor booths (including live snakes, balloon animals, lots of dog adoptions, Sierra Club, ..) (There was supposed to be a 1 mile fun-run for the kids, but it got lumped into the 5K fun-run -- I'm not ready for the boys to run 5K. 1 mile, but not 5K. They were a little disappointed that they didn't get finisher medals...
Enjoyed the day!
