I came in 7th overall, and 1st in Masters Division, on my first trail race. We experienced rain, hail, lightning, sand, mud, and cattle.

I actually led the race for most of the first 8 miles - there was an unmarked left turn early in the race which apparently nobody knew about except me. I was shocked to be in the lead at the first aid station at 4 miles, and even more amazed at mile 7. 6 younger guys passed me in the last 6 miles, but I managed to win the 40 and over category. I think I'd like to run more trail races. They're a lot of fun! (well at least this one was)

I won a small trophy and free entry for next year's race! Whoohoo.

Awesome, Marc!!! Congratulations on 7th and 1st for your first trail race. I love trail races, but I'm never in good enough shape, but I'm working on it.

Atta-boy Marc! Way to get out and win the gold. Looks like you've found your MoJo and your happy place!!!!!! When did you decide to add this race to your list???

Great job! I actually ran this race back in 2007. No hail, lightning or mud that year, but plenty of sand and cattle. My in-laws live in Springtown.

Thanks, Dale. I think trail races are supposed to be kind of laid-back. One guy I passed (he was doing the marathon or 50-miler) asked if I had lots of caffeine that morning. I ran what felt comfortable. It's a different kind of race.

Thanks, Slick!

Small world, Tina. I took my mountain bike to the trails the night before the race, and had to get off and walk in many places because the sand was so deep. I was dreading the "beach", but the rain was a God-send and the earlier runners (full and 50-milers) trampled it down nicely, making it quite enjoyable. It only got muddy in some places during the rain. I'm looking forward to more trail races.

Congratulations! A win on your debut trail race!!! Awesome sauce!!! :) :) :)

Gotta love a race with hail, lightening and cattle in the mix! :). Yeehaw!!! :)
